YAK FIBER
A Nature Treasure

Native to the Himalayas, Mongolia, and southern Siberia, yaks thrive in extreme environments. Yak fiber is among the world’s most precious natural fibers—soft and fine like cashmere, warmer than wool, naturally breathable, moisture-regulating, and hypoallergenic.
Yak fiber consists of three layers (from inner to outer): down (14–20 microns), transition hair (20–40 microns), and coarse hair (40+ microns). The down is exceptionally fine, soft, and insulating, making it ideal for high-end yarns. The Essential Yak series uses Grade 5 down, with a diameter of 14–16 microns—an especially rare and refined natural fiber.

Rare and Limited
Each year, approximately 1,000 tons of yak fiber are collected worldwide, with over half sourced from the northeastern Tibetan Plateau. A single yak yields up to 500 grams of fine down annually.
Fiber is obtained through both shearing and combing. Traditionally, herders begin combing weeks before shearing to collect the finest down. Natural shedding occurs in late spring to early summer. The process is time-intensive, requiring multiple stages of sorting to ensure fiber quality while preserving the animal’s natural cycle.

Characteristics
Low yield, natural depth, strong origin
Collected once per year through natural shedding, with limited usable down
Naturally dark tones require no dyeing, preserving texture and reducing environmental impact
The three-layer structure supports diverse applications
Natural fiber
A rich spectrum of natural shades, from white and grey to brown and black
Fine fibers that are soft, non-irritating, and skin-friendly
Free from chemical processing, suitable for sensitive skin
Excellent thermal performance for next-to-skin wear
High moisture absorption (up to 30% of its weight) without compromising comfort
We approach this material with respect for its natural state—allowing the fiber to be experienced, touched, and used in its most authentic form.
